I've noticed that most of the people on this site are blind or visually impaired. But we say all the time that The Zone isn't a blindness-only site. So I'm just curious, are any of you Zoners sighted? If so, how'd you find out about The Zone and how do you like it? Do you find it interesting reading about us blind people? Let's see if anyone responds.

Hi, I'm not sited, but purely as information, I will say that I know at least 3 people that are memeber of the zone are sited, 1 of them being a very good friend, although I haven't seen him on here in ages. I also know that there are at lest 2 visually imparied people who can see well enough not needing to use screen reader or who can do most things like sited people except drive and maybe a few othr things.

The reason I have not replied is because of the question: "Do you find it interesting reading about us blind people?" which gives me the feeling that I am here as some kind of voyerist who comes to watch blind people play, talk, etc as this is some kind of a zoo. This website was not made specifically and only for blind people. The reason many blind people use it, is because it is fully accessible mainly because the owner/moderator is blind himself. I am sighted, yes, but I don't come here to learn about blind people I come here because I like the games, the discussions and because many people I know are members here, too.

As a blind person my self, I'd have to agree with star here. So many blind people (I'm not neceserilly talking about the person who originated this topic) go on about how sited people treat them differently, how they want to be treated just like anyone else and not be seperated or treate as a group being blind people, yet so many those same blind people keep saying how it's important that they're blind, how they can't do half of the shit in life because they're blind, how everyone should find it maizing or interesting that they're blind, how world owes them something just because they're blind. This site is, to my knowledge, not made and designed for blind people only, yes the owner is blind and therefore is very accessible, yes the majoritty users are blind, but we shouldn't be surprised at the fact that there are sited people on here. I don't see what would be so interesting to read about blind people, yeah sure there are some discussions about blindness issues on here, and there's a discussion going on at the other board about should there be a blindness board on here or not and yes some sited people may or may not find discussions about blind people or blindness interesting, but we shouldn't assume that the only reason sited people come on here is to read about blind people and blindness as it's not the main ame of the site. And blinky, you possibly meant that post that someone may be disappointed that you're sited as a joke, but anyone who read my previous post and nayone who knows me personally will know that some of my best friends in life are sited.

I agree with what was said above. I know and have known several blind people in real life, so I'm not here to do some investigations 'winks'. All people have different personalities, no matter if they have a disability or not.

On the other hand, I don't think it's bad when some sighted members are here to learn more about blindness topics like voice technology, braille or accesibility. Education creates openmindness. it's better than being totally indifferent.

I never said that it's wrong for sited people to read/learn about blind people, what they use to use computers ETC. I just said, that we sholdn't assume, like some people seem to do, that one of the, if not the main reason sited people would come here is to learn about blind people. We also shouldn't assume that sited people find everything that blind people do amaising or exceptionally interesting. As I said in my previous post, so many people want to be treated just "normaly" yet those same people sometimes feel like sited people should be amaised by what they do. Yes, sure enough I met people in life who get amaised at the fact that, for example, I can use a computer and yes some of them probablly never heard of jaws or the fact that blind person can use a computer, but at the same time I wouldn't feel offended if someone wouldn't really sure much interest in that. To me it's more important if a person treates me with respect, rather than if they're particularly interested in my blindness or not.

I am sighted. When I first came here I had no idea that the majority of the people were blind. That don't bother me though, I like it here.

I still want to find some friends to talk to blind or not.
